What I did on that project

  • Though of a co-op game using a MIDI controller.

  • Made levels implying the full use of the two player at all time.

  • Create a difficulty curve in six levels giving just enough challenge to make it addictive.

  • Define different gameplay for each player.

List of features

  • For that game, I made sure each player were equally needed all game long. To do that, I had to make sure that both player had to fully cooperate to make it to the end. Even if the two player are not always actively working, they have to think about their actions in advance and fully understand what they can do.

  • In this game, I also gave the player the opportunity to play the game more than once and still experiencing a new gameplay. To achieve that, I gave the players different type of gameplay. One of them control the character and go around the game like he is playing a typical platformer and the other player uses a MIDI controller to influence some of the platforms. With those two different approach, the players can rethink the levels in which they are playing to be able to find the solution.

  • I also kept in mind an exponential difficulty curve to challenge the skills of each player while making their success even more exalting. That game is created in a way that the players can learn by themselves how to play and what is possible to do. The goal is that the players find the total extend of their capacity while giving them a certain level of difficulty. The idea behind that is that we wanted to give the players a complete game, even in six levels, but to do so we had to offer a tutorial, a challenge and a hard ending, a complete challenging game.
